Background:
Florida Board of Education Anti-Smoking Program
In 1999 Vexcom developed the Hitting Home web site for the State of Florida. Hitting Home was an anti-smoking campaign distributed to over 115,000 middle school students throughout Florida. The students received a CD for their home computers that contained educational games that demonstrated the health risks from smoking. Each game allowed you to score points by completing puzzles, watching videos, and other similar activities.
The website component that Vexcom designed allowed the students to upload the scores and the system kept track of all 115,000 student household scores and rankings. The system automatically created an account for each student linked to their home computer and tracked each game and the amount of points creating a running total. At the end of the campaign, the student with the highest score was awarded a college scholarship.
Vexcom worked with TSI (i4Learning), a Norcross based educational program management company. I4learning coordinated the project and resourced all the many components of the campaign. There were several resources in the team including the game developers, the content providers and distribution logistics. Vexcom worked with the game developers to integrate the games with the website and developed all the web based components of the system.
Vexcom worked on several other programs with i4learning including RAZE (http://www.razewv.com/) in 2002-2003 which is a West Virginia anti-smoking initiative that reached every middle school and high school student in the entire state of West Virginia. Vexcom developed a manageable website for the Raze administration.
Vexcom also helped create several interactive CD ROMs and other web sites for various educational products offered by i4learning.
